Student Involvement’s Governance branch represents the student body and includes Black Student Union, International Student Organization, and the Student Government Association.

GOVERNANCE ORGANIZATIONS TO JOIN

BLACK STUDENT UNION (BSU)

The Black Student Union at Auburn University upholds the following principles: to represent the interests and concerns of Black students at Auburn University; to bring together all aspects of Black student life for the purpose ofimproving the campus environment; encourage involvement of Black students in all campus activities; discourage and abate institutional and individual acts and symbols of racism; and promotes the Auburn spirit and tradition of excellence.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION (ISO)

The International Student Organization mission is to improve multinational understanding and promote relationships between people of different cultures. ISO also helps ease the process of adaptation for international students. ISO actively promotes diversity and beneficial interaction between the international students and American students. Some of ISO’s events include International Peace Dinner, Friday Social Hours, a world’s fair, cultural show and a soccer tournament.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION (SGA)

The mission of the Student Government Association is, “Serving and promoting the individual student; unifying all that is Auburn.” SGA represents the student voice to university faculty, staff and administration as well as government entities like the Auburn City Council. This is done through the three different branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. The executive branch consists of Executive Cabinet with different teams conducting initiatives, financial projects, outreach efforts, and communications and marketing tactics. The legislative branch is made up of 34 senators representing Auburn’s 13 colleges and schools who address constituent needs and concerns through passing legislation. The judicial branch interprets theSGA Constitution and Code of Laws.

Any student can join the Black Student Union.

Are BSU General Assemblies open to all?

General assembly is our weekly meeting that is open to all students!

Are ISO social hours open to all?

Any student can join the International Student Organizations.

Are social hours open to all?

Social Hours are open to all students and they are a time to meet new students from around campus.

How do I get involved with SGA outside of Elections?

Throughout the year, SGA hosts opportunities to be involved and participate in SGA programs, as well as use your voice as a student to advocate for concerns/needs. Volunteering at shaker distribution or at Hey Day, or speaking at a Student Senate meeting are just a few examples of tangible ways that students can volunteer their time with SGA. Do I have to be studying political science/governance to join SGA?

No, SGA has a very wide variety of representation across Auburn’s academic colleges—both in the Senate and in the Cabinet! You do not have to be majoring in political science or governance to be involved in SGA.

How do I get in touch with SGA when I have a concern or a question?

Auburn Answers is SGA’s primary platform for student feedback. It can be utilized to share questions, comments, or concerns about a variety of topics related to the student experience: athletics gamedays, academic advising, housing, dining, COVID-19, transportation, and campus safety are just a few of the topics that students are encouraged to reach out to SGA with their feedback.
